Typotektur

This exhibition organised by the museum of Zurich takes on a particular aspect of graphic design, presenting a selection of posters which make use of typography – writing, slogans etc – to communicate. Words used not only to transmit linguistic content but also as a design element in themselves, interacting with the world of the image. It is an approach which has provided notable results – over the last eighty years – above all in certain areas of application such as political posters, those for the cinema and those with architectural themes (as in the case of graphic designers such as Italo Lupi and Takenobu Igarashi who have made it a central component in their way of working). The exhibition has the value of having selected posters from different periods, bringing together work by some of the leading names in the history of graphic design such as Herbert Leupin, Ryuichi Yameshiro, Ivan Chermayeff, Philippe Apeloig, Pentagram Design. until 26 January 2001 Museum für Gestaltung, Zurich Plakatraum, Limmatstrasse 55vis-à-vis Museum für Gestaltung Tel. +41-1-4462211
