For Slovenian-born artist / architect / sculptor Marjetica Potrc, two of the most successful urban forms in the global city are shantytowns and gated communities. ‘These informal cities complement formal cities, making them whole’, she says. Potrc’s installations explore and critique government public housing versus the more personal housing solutions the poor have used to build their own spaces.

The Palm Beach ICA will host the first American survey of Potrc’s work, including her Caracas/West Bank/West Palm Beach Project. The exhibition will serve as a three-month investigation of urban architecture with a series of panels, public forums and lectures. J.S.
