Organised by a group of young architects, Cliostraat, and curated by the director of the forthcoming Art Biennale in Venice, Francesco Bonami together with Raf Simons, the exhibition in Florence “The Fourth Sex” describes the aspirations, dreams and insecurities of the fourth sex, in other words the world of adolescence.

The material on show is drawn from the complex universe of contemporary culture: fashion, communication, art, music and cinema. And given that we are talking about an age which is one of the most studied and monitored by experts, it wouldn’t be complete without an anthology which brings together some of the most interesting writing on the theme of adolescence, combining poetry, literature, news, journalism and essays.

The exhibition includes artists (Vanessa Beecroft, Raymond Pettibon, Mike Kelley, Andreas Gursky, Larry Clark, Takashi Murakami and Paul McCarthy), and fashion designers (Comme des Garçons, Helmut Lang, Katherine Hamnett, Diesel, Benetton and Jürgen Teller). Completing the picture is a series of writings by various authors (including Pier Paolo Pasolini, Pier Vittorio Tondelli, Stefano Pistolini, James Ballard, Bret Easton Ellis and Douglas Coupland).
