Geometric lighting defines an “artistic” clinic

An "art gallery" dedicated to the medical act, an interior combining the classical healthiness of a clinic with the fascination of contemporary works of art and design: this is the concept behind the development of the EAN Clinic in Iași, Romania. The project's uniqueness stems from the client's desire to abandon the typical doctor-patient reception model, and at the same time integrate a series of works from the owner's personal collection into the clinic.  A series of brass niches further enhances the space, adding functions with which users can interact. The colour palette used in the different rooms was derived from the hues found in the artwork. Fuchsia, associated with an open wound, is assigned to the consultation room. For tension-filled spaces such as the waiting room, blue was used for its relaxing properties: as an accent in the waiting room where treatment plans are discussed and proposed, and as an immersive backdrop for the corridors leading to the treatment room where interventions take place. Immaculate white is used for the sterilisation and intervention rooms. 

A fundamental element in the definition of space is lighting. In this respect, art galleries and spaces dedicated to care have similarities: in both cases the light must be candid and aseptic, enhancing the neutral character of the space. In addition to having elegant brass lamps that further enhance the rooms, the main spaces are defined by square light marks running parallel to the walls. The architects chose SL787+ PL pendant luminaires with bi-directional light with an opal PMMA diffuser, which guarantee optimum diffusion and high light uniformity. A customised configuration was designed for each room, thanks to the LIGHT-PERFORMER® software, in order to follow the morphology and lighting requirements of each area.
