NikeLab ST18

NikeLab ST18 is a new destination that will provide consumers unique expressions of Nike’s leading innovations, services and experiences. 

Arthur Huang, the founder of design firm Miniwiz, specializes in repurposing waste materials, and collaborated with Nike designers to create display structures out of recycled aluminum. The team also created platforms out of Nike Grind, while the wall fixtures are made of recycled computer parts. The fixtures and materials used are modularly designed making them versatile and flexibile for ease of use in the space. 

The fitting rooms have tunable lighting with four different settings so consumers can view how footwear and apparel look in different conditions and times of day, the basement features artificial skylights offering light where it is usually dark, and a hidden room with a bank vault from a previous life will occasionally host special events. Rooting the space in sport is an intricate pattern laser etched in the locally reclaimed oak wood floorboards. The pattern is an interpretation of data from the motion capture of a runner’s stride.

The shop will consistently employ work from Milanese creatives. Exhibiting Milanese design talent, Martino Gamper – also one of the innovators Nike partnered with for The Nature of Motion exhibition during Milan Design Week 2016 – created 12 chairs, eight stools, and the totemic central structure within the store.
