The Israeli designer and craftsman Alon Dodo created Flying Carpet, a collection of hand-crafted wooden furniture recalling a fabric moving in the wind. The designer usually works with wood and its imperfections, considering cracks an adding value instead of a flaw: the “perfection of imperfection” and the coexistence of gentle and rough are, in fact, parts of his philosophy.
Alon Dodo’s creations include seatings, desks, beds and accessories, all hand made in his studio. In Flying Carpet, the surfaces of the table and bench – made respectively of massive white oak and massive blackened oak – have waving edges as they were moved by air. A brass inlay is placed on a crack of the wood to prevent it to expand and to underline its presence, as a sort of kintsugi. At the end the furniture pieces have been lacquered.
Wood or carpet? Alon Dodo’s furniture collection seems to move in the wind
