With the aim of photographing the Austrian contemporary design scene, Juland (the half Austrian, half Spanish designer couple Julia Taubinger and Andrés Fredes) decided to print an extensive catalogue. A work of almost encyclopaedic proportions, “Pure Austrian Design” consists of 450 colour pages that manage to mix the best in design and products “made in Austria” with a selection of the most interesting and most promising new names. The aim of the project was to offer designers an international platform for promoting their work.

Two years on, the eclectic duo are taking it further by offering a “flesh and blood” version of the book in the shape of an itinerant exhibition “Pure Austrian Design Landing”. After showing first at Prague, the exhibition is due to ‘land’ in Barcelona. A selection of products will be on show at the FAD, along with a soundtrack (the compilation “AudioFurniture”) with the best from the much vaunted Viennese electronic music scene. “Because – maintain the curators – the culture of design has a broad meaning and is not limited to just furniture”.

For those visiting FAD there is also a new restaurant where seasonal dishes prepared by chef Giovanni Zanzi can be sampled. E.S.
