Rock house

B.U.S Architecture designed a single family house in a very small area – in a residential neighborhood in Seoul – whose shape was strongly influenced by building laws.

B.U.S architecture designed a single family house in a very small area in Korea. The volume of the house was set from the beginning, which is the maximum allowed area. The shape of the building was also strongly influenced by building laws. Korean studio conceived the cross-section as a plan and did not think about the plans until the outline of the project came out.

The project was completed through the compromises and understanding of clients’ life. The first floor is dedicated to work and commercial activities they wanted to do. Since the space leads to the parking lot if you open the folding door, you can expand it, connecting interior and exterior spaces. The front door is detached from this space, separating things happening on the first floor from those going on the other parts of the house.

The second floor is dedicated to the living room and kitchen for the clients to meet their guest and spend most of their time. The third floor serves as the most private space for the bedroom, the dressing room and the restroom, since they hoped that the bedrooms will be only for the couple. The fourth floor is a space for work. The volume cut off by the limit line of structure becomes a rooftop terrace that can be accessed directly from the workroom.
