Critical Halloween Architecture Costume Competition

Domus and Storefront for Art and Architecture host a reader-selected online contest for the best architecture costume.

On October 29, Storefront for Art and Architecture will host Critical Halloween: On Banality, An Architecture Costume Party, at 3-Legged Dog in Lower Manhattan. The competition portion will continue on DomusWeb through November 11th.

At Critical Halloween, artists, architects and all creative individuals in New York are called upon to exercise their critical judgment and creative action against one of the most feared ghosts of artistic and architectural production: Banality. Guests will sip drinks such as the Storefront Sunrise, Graham Ram, Renfro for President and the Vito Vodka Holl while enjoying architectural acoustics curated by "This is Care Of" with a special performance by the Danish group Hess is More and DJ sets by Tiffany Roth [Midnight Magic], Kap10Kurt and Popdaddy [Fagget Fairys].

Competition: On Banality
Framed as an Art-Architecture Costume Party, the event is an exercise of critical debauchery. Upon arrival, all party-goers will be captured by the camera of photographer Brett Breyer and invited to enter the competition by registering and submitting a costume name. Throughout the night, a live competition juried by Justin Davidson, Liz Diller and Wangechi Mutu will bestow prizes on the most provocative costumes. Prizes include a print by architectural photographer Dean Kaufman, a print by Madelon Vriesendrop and a drawing by Ryue Nishizawa among other surprises. Tickets are $100 and include entry, unlimited cocktails, a complimentary one-year membership to Storefront and free registration for the costume competitions. All proceeds will support Storefront for Art and Architecture's exhibitions and programs.

TOO SCARED TO ATTEND?
Artists and architects are unafraid; but they don't all live in New York. Domus readers however are invited to choose the Best Costume from October 31 through November 11. The individual with the most votes will be named People's Choice on the Domus Web site and receive a complimentary one-year subscription to Domus.
