Ten architecture and design projects for children, with a common feature: analogic.

Designing for kids requires a full dose of precision and a bit of madness. Bringing back the wild nature to playgrounds, finding solutions to the lack of sports facilities in the big cities, enhancing the tactile sensations and providing fun, yet sober dedicated spaces. The key element is to leave some room for imagination, without overwhelming. Read a selection of ten stories dedicated to kids.

– Openfabric and Dmau studio completed an urban park and playground based on the distinction between the build environment and the wild nature, teaching children how to move between the two.

– Designing “A Warm Clinic” in Tianjin, China, RIGI Design turned a cold medical space into a lively terminal which connects to people, spreading warmth and caring.

– To overcome the lack of public playgound infrastructures due to overpopulation, B.U.S Architecture designed a modular, foldable structure to back up a number of different games.

– In a site close to the woods in Poland, Mode:lina divided a single family house in two, carefully separating spaces for kids and adults, with a common ground floor.

– Young South Korean designers Minwoo Lee and Taewoo Kim created a simple object made of various materials, shapes, and combinations of colors.

– Woodyzoody, a collection of small, wooden animals by 13 designers, offers a starting point for an interesting conversation with Enzo Mari, inventor in 1973 of a set of 16 animals and another of 16 fish: from toys for children to being a parent today.

– At the NGV in Melbourne, Catalan designer Martí Guixé will present an interactive large-scale exhibition developed especially for children to inspire a rethinking of the ways we eat.

– FARM – the workshop of territorial regeneration in the heart of Favara, Sicily – celebrated its sixth anniversary in June with a packed programme of events, with new activities such as the School of Architecture for Children.

– Riva, the iconic Italian shipbuilding company, has presented a family of wooden building toy boats designed by Madeindreams, handmade in Italy without glue.

– On the lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro Patricia Erimescu built a library without any electric tools, using only locally traditional methods and innovating them step by step, with the active participation of the inhabitants of the village and the parents.
