From religious buildings that blend with the ground topography to the new solutions for the temporary living, passing by an analysis of the surreal landscape surrounding Las Vegas: discover the fifteen architecture, art and design’s stories that we have chosen for the Best of April.

Cliffs Impasse: Antonin Ziegler posed a little volume shaped like an open book in the landscape of Impasse des Falaises to host a private library that is also a place of contemplation.

Bruce Nauman: with the exhibition at the Fondation Cartier, Bruce Nauman is reconfirmed as an artist capable of describing our Promethean and impossible relationship with reality.

Ibirapuera apartment: combining design pieces with custom-designed furnishings, FCstudio gives shape to a coherent space that communicates with the Ibirapuera urban park designed by Oscar Niemeyer.

Puukuokka housing block: OOPEAA completed the first of an energy-efficient trio of multi-story timber-framed flats – the first of this kind built in Finland – that will visually enhance the townscape while offering affordable, eco-efficient housing.

Las Vegas / Black Mountain: following the boom and bust history of the Nevada, Michael Light’s photographs terrifyingly and poignantly show the extraction and habitation industries as two sides of the same coin.

Better Shelter: the temporary shelter developed by UNHCR, Ikea Foundation and Better Shelter in the summer of 2015 will be delivered to thousands of families in refugee camps.

EAA, Sancaklar Mosque: with their project for the Sancaklar Mosque, Istanbul, Emre Arolat Architects aim to address the fundamental issues of designing a mosque by distancing itself from the current architectural discussions based on form and focusing solely on the essence of religious space.

Ski school in Courmayeur: LEAPfactory has created for the new Ski and Snowboard School Courmayeur an elegant wooden construction built with BauBuche, Pollmeier’s laminated veneer lumber.

Buenos Aires Ciudad Casa de Gobierno: the new City Hall of Buenos Aires designed by Foster + Partners in Parque Patricios echoes the building’s park-side setting and uses materials that draw on the site’s industrial past.

Andrea Macruz, Nolii Table: starting from the undulations of desert dunes and the fractals triangulation, Brasilian architect Andrea Macruz developed her tables on view at SaloneSatellite.

Satyendra Pakhalé, Kayo: for Fiam, Satyendra Pakhalé has designed Kayo, an all-glass extending table that vanishes during conversation eliminating the distances.

Clinic in Kuwait: a contemporary mesh that connects to the cultural identity of end users constructs a veiled threshold in between exterior and internal courtyards of the Ali Mohammed T. Al-Ghanim Clinic, designed in Kuwait by AGi architects.

Kodo, soul of motion: the Mazda Design Space in Milan showcases a collection of objects created by its design team and inspired by the automaker’s philosophy.

DL. House: for an artist who wanted to transform this space into his home, his study and in a place to exhibit his art collection Nuno Alves de Carvalho used the existing structure to create a vertical loft layout divided by an OSB central element.
