From the exceptional historical context, rich in memories and suggestions of the past, comes the opportunity to give further proof of Alcantara’s extraordinary characteristics through a series of site-specific installations.
Designers from various fields (fashion, products, lighting, interior and exhibition design) have been called upon to develop their own interpretations of these characteristics, forming a relationship with a unique place: a historical space, where the era's best artistic production gave life to a true work of art, complete in its creation, detail, finish and conception.
“An exhibition dedicated to ‘dreams’, for which we asked designers to make people smile and dream,” says Giulio Cappellini. “The curators’ work was to draw a common thread that connects the different personalities – Nendo, Gentucca Bini, Ingo Maurer, Paola Navone, Ico Migliore and Mara Servetto, in addition to Cappellini himself – to create synergies with the context and tell the material in a playful way, without being cloying.”
The Alcantara exhibition at the Palazzo Reale aims to convey the spirit of the union between technology, art, industry and innovation, capable of impeccably exploiting the detail and versatility of a material to serve the creator’s vision.
The themes of Beauty, Flexibility, Touch, Envelopment and Transformability are the foundations of a series of site-specific works conceived by some of the greatest interpreters of modernity, in a fantastical realm made possible by advanced technology. The installations are linked by a thin thread linking past and present, weaving the flowing continuity of our history. The visitor experience is a multi-sensory dimension, where sight, touch, smell and hearing are stimulated in an effect of continuous synesthesia.
The resulting understanding is that the most precious asset is a project’s ability to offer a new outlook on things. And the real dream is having access to the technology that makes it all possible.
