Plywood Print Stool

Born from the creative union of Piet Hein Eek and NLXL LAB, in cooperation with Rijksmuseum, the collection features 8 different designs, from Rembrandt to Vermeer.

Piet Hein Eek and NLXL LAB started working together in 2010 on the now famous Scrapwood wallpaper.

During one of the first meetings the idea of a knockdown printed furniture collection was born. “It should fit in a box”, Piet Hein Eek and NLXL founder Rick Vintage concluded as they parted their ways.

A couple of years later Piet Hein Eek received a wood enabled printer from Canon. A visit to the Rijksmuseum and his appreciation for the way the museum converted their art collection to all sorts of products in their museum shop, made him decide to develop a product. He put a four year old idea, centuries old Dutch masters and the latest printing and wood cutting techniques together to create a new product, a Plywood Printed Stool.

The artwork is not limited to the Rijksmuseum collection. As Rick Vintage puts it: “We are talking to a couple of museums to print stools with art from their collection so we can make limited editions for museum shops. We hope to get in touch with museums worlwide.”

The stools, first non-wallpaper product for NLXL LAB, are designed in cooperation with the Rijksmuseum of Amsterdam and will be produced in Piet Hein Eek’s factory.
