Best of #September

Among the stories chosen for September’s Best of, the most interesting novelties of the London Design Festival and three architectures that develop – each in its way – a strong symbiosis with their environment.

Best of #settembre
In September, the world of design meets in several European capitals.
After being in London for the London Design Festival, we told the story of Passionswege – which projects have been matching the abilities of young international designers with the skills of the best traditional craftspeople in Vienna – that now is part of the Vienna Design Week, and we selected the most interesting novelties of Maison&Objet, in Paris.
Paris is also the protagonist of Paris Abstract, a photoessay where Michael Wolf explores the urban landscape, fascinated with density and life in cities.
Among the architectural stories we have chosen the new tropical conservatory at the Botanical Gardens in Aarhus by C.F. Møller Architects, designed like a drop of dew in its green surroundings; the first library of Muyinga (Burundi), developed by BC architects in locally sourced compressed earth blocks and built involving end-users; Casa No Tempo, an old family farm transformed by Aires Mateus into a modern retreat in the rural landscape of the Alentejo region, Portugal.
At the boundary between architecture, art and design, L’Atelier en mouvement by Pierre Thibault, an installation in progress, always evolving, moving through the various Quebec’s landscapes and Sparked, a short film that combines human performance with a group of computer controlled flying machines, born from a collaboration between ETH Zurich, Verity Studios, and Cirque du Soleil.
