With the Crocco collection, Rome-based company Slamp's Nigel Coates — its creative director since 2007 — plays with light in a visionary, innovative way. Presented at Euroluce 2013, the collection consists of a series of wall lamps with a shiny steel support and a moulded Lentiflex® shade in different hues, bringing softness to a sinuous form.
Coates explains the two interconnected ideas behind Crocco — a short name for crocodile, an animal which the lamp’s twisting contours seek to evoke: “The first was to create a modular lamp that could generate large wall or ceiling compositions. I also wanted to explore a boomerang form showcasing the qualities of this material, Lentiflex®. With a slash along the back, it opens like a mouth.”
