PROOFFLab

At the Emporio building in Zona Tortona, PROOFF presents its newest products, alongside a striking installation featuring the PROOFFLab’s current work in progress.

During the Salone del Mobile 2013, design furniture brand PROOFF has chosen Zona Tortona as the launch pad for new products and to showcase PROOFFLab, an area displaying the brand's works in progress. In the Emporio building, the brand built the PROOFF house, showcasing also the newest PROOFF #006 SideSeat, alongside new accessories and upholsteries.

PROOFFLab studies, discusses, investigates and develops potential work landscapes, and presented Work At Home by Studio Makkink & Bey, CloudBoxes by Studio Maarten Kolk and Guus Kusters and the ODE PDB cabinet by the Belgian collective Jij (architects de vylder vinck taillieu & Serge Vandenhove). As the result of close collaboration — in what the brand calls a "tandem" — the work in progress displayed focuses on the theme of acoustics, which according to PROOFF is an important issue in the contemporary and future work landscape.

Studio Makkink & Bey, Work At Home studio for PROOFFLab

Studio Makkink & Bey has designed a movable work unit: Work At Home can be appended to the rooftop of a house and removed when it is no longer wanted. The prototype is a blue foam structure that doubles as a desk with a shelf and a small heater and chimney. While it can be delivered at your doorstep, construction and installing shouldn't be any harder than installing a simple closet.

The ODE PDB cabinet by Jij is a modular cabinet for a flexible space, with an acoustic wall unit that can serve as a space (and sound) divider. It presents an innovative pricing scheme — costumers purchase a blueprint, the architect's drawing hours and the cabinet maker's hours.

Maarten Kolk & Guus Kusters' CloudBoxes are a series of five storage boxes, with shape and look inspired by clouds in the sky. Made of semi-transparent latex, the boxes damp sound, much to the same effect as adding a curtain to a space. The small, medium and large units are made to store office clutter, and visually clear spaces.
