Custhom: Palladian

London design-duo Custhom presented at Maison&Objet 2014 the Palladian Collection: ceramics and wallpapers drawn on the architecture of Palladio, translating traditional inspirations through their signature bold, contemporary and graphic lens.

Custhom presented during Maison&Objet 2014 his latest collection, Palladian, showcasing the dinner set and exhibiting one of the wallpaper designs for the first time. The Palladian collection was launched in September 2013 during London Fashion Week.

The ceramics were used in a special collaboration with Tom’s Kitchen, headed by the Michelin starred chef Tom Aikens, at the hub of London Fashion Week, Somerset House. This historic neoclassical setting could not be more apt given the inspiration for the collection. Custhom have drawn on the architecture of Palladio, translating the classical form of a Palladian-style window into bold graphic designs. Playing with the notion of a frame, the designs explore the use of negative space, geometry, form and scale, finished with the distinctive Custhom metallic accent.

Custhom’s graphic exploration is underpinned by a refined colour palette of royal blue set against white with gold. The collection is made exclusively in Britain, the wallpapers use durable FSC certified paper and the metallic design is hand finished in Custhom’s London studio. The ceramics collection is made in Stoke-on-Trent using fine British bone china and each piece is finished with a hand-painted 22ct gold rim.

Nathan Philpott and Jemma Ooi met while studying at the Royal College of Art and founded Custhom in 2009. Custhom combine a broad palette of inspiration from design disciplines, such as typography and illustration, with intelligent and innovative use of materials and processes; creating rich dialogue and interplay between line, pattern and colour.
