The reconstruction is executed on the existing roof and it gives the building a great quality. The new roof has been conceived by restricting and expanding the volume, and by adding some elements.
It is modeled on the existing plan and it is inserted into the existing space. Scaramellini wanted to give the building a sense of unity, thus they added new windows and reconstructed the roof.
Each window is addressed towards a specific corner of the landscape. The windows have a twofold nature: the main ones are located near the terraces. Therefore, from the outside, they are not so standing out. The other windows are located in harmony with the existing ones. The element located on the roof gives way to the zenith lighting and enables ventilation.
Various models were made in different scales in order to study the new volume. The roof is clad in a light-grey pre-patinated Rheinzink coating.
For this project Enrico Scaramellini reflected upon the sense of unity of the building with its surroundings and used alternatively white and green colours, both natural and artificial to show the contrast of the building with the wide surrounding garden.
