Spanish Dream

The Spanish collective Cadelasverdes reconstructs, ironically, the day life in the unfinished buildings, outcome of the housing bubble explosion, that constellate the country.

Cadelasverdes, Spanish Dream
Spanish Dream is a project that proposes a critical approach to the economic crisis and its consequences.

The idea refers to the American Dream, as a symbol of a desire of everyone in the country, the definitive aim in life: to be the owner of a house. This dream broke and, as legacy, we have country invaded with unfinished buildings and with few possibilities to be finished, premature ruins that are part of our landscape. Behind this, there is a hidden personal reality, individual and collective, that is part of our life and shows a pessimistic scene.

Nowadays we live an international crisis that provokes huge economic imbalances all over the world. In Spain, this situation is even more intense because of the housing bubble. In these last years we saw an unreal housing demand. This didn't correspond to a real need because Spain already has the biggest  Europe's housing stock. This oversubscription came from the credit abundance that stimulated the production and generated the bubble covered in speculative practices.

Spanish Dream refers specially to the emotional side of the story, creating family scenes in unfinished buildings. The unifinished is far from a real domestic space and contrasts with the normality of the daily scenes, looking for the reflection about a society that, following the desire of becoming owners, forgot the real sense of inhabiting.

Cadelasverdes consists of three Spanish architects: Ana Amado, architectural photographer, curator and exhibition designer, Master in Photography and Curatorial Practise. Marta Marcos, International Laboratory of Arquitecture and Urban Design, IUAV, Venice (Italy) and Master Degree in Wood and Wooden Architecture at the Aalto University, Helsinki.
