Old furniture in Paris

For some days Martino Gamper reinvents old pieces of furniture, out-of-order lamps and clocks and fabric remnants at the Chapel saint-Louis des Gobelins in Paris.

During a week of improvised craftwork, Martino Gamper has been reusing, reinterpreting and reassembling his first large-scale piece to be included in France’s public collections. The designer was invited by the Centre national des arts plastiques (Cnap) to create an experimental working space at the Chapelle Saint-Louis des Gobelins, Mobilier national, in Paris.

“Old Furniture, New Faces” is a project where the designer takes bits and pieces from disused everyday objects from the Mobilier national – the French national agency that administers the Gobelins and the Beauvais Manufactories. More precisely, he takes pieces of furniture in storage awaiting sale, fragments of out-of-order lamps and clocks, fabric remnants, to produce a collage of materials, techniques and narratives.
