Operae 2013

The festival dedicated to independent and self-produced design will be held in the premises of the Officine Grandi Riparazioni in Turin (Italy), from the 11th to the 13th of October 2013.

The fourth edition of Operæ, the festival dedicated to independent and self-produced design, will be held from the 11th to the 13th of October 2013. Platform which aim is to promote independent design, Operae encourages exchanges with distributors, and finally discusses on the cultural, economic and social implications of independent design.

Officine Grandi Riparazioni'7000 sqm consisting of an exhibition space featuring almost 60 exhibitors, two arenas for conferences and debates, and two special areas for the numerous workshops scheduled.
The renowned architect Michele De Lucchi will be opening the three-day event with a debate on design’s short supply chain, the importance of land and on the responsible use of resources. On Friday 11th October, the Spanish designer Alvaro Catalán de Ocón will be speaking of his personal approach to design and Colombian experience thanks to which he has come up with his PET lamp collection, lamps made of reused plastic bottles stranded according to the local textile tradition; and designers Boaz Cohen and Sayaka Yamamoto from BCXSY studio (sSaturday 12th and Sunday 13th October), will be sharing with the audience the ways and dynamics with which it is possible to reach and handle a creative inspiration.

Fablab Torino will be leading the laboratory The maker’s machine, open all along the event. An area handled by the first Italian Fablab, that will be showing visitors how to autonomously self-produce three special types of digital machines with which turn, without any particular informatics skills, an idea into an object or a tiny series.
