A radical bender

Two exhibitions for fans of the radical: Superstudio at Museo Pecci in Prato and Ugo La Pietra at Galerie Mercier in Paris.

After spending decades in oblivion, radical architecture is experiencing a second lease of life in two fascinating exhibitions. The first, Superstudio Backstage at the Centro Pecci in Prato, shows the Florentine group behind the scenes in photographs by Toraldo di Francia. The curator Stefano Pezzato has constructed an effective whole enriched with material owned by the museum, such as the ritual Atti fondamentali films, objects in the Istogrammi series, photomontages, lamps and a reconstruction of the Supersuperficie set originally made for the 1972 MoMA exhibition Italy: The New Domestic Landscape, curated by Emilio Ambasz.

The second exhibition centres on the research of the multitalented Ugo La Pietra. At the Galerie Mercier in Paris, the show is part of a cycle on the radicals featuring design objects, performances and films displayed in a brutalist exhibition space. Emanuele Piccardo
