Sottsass. Progetti 1946-2005

Almost everything is known about his more recent life, or rather one presumes that the exhibitions, books and catalogues (such as Ettore Sottsass Scritti 1946-2001 the book that brings together original writings) have covered it pretty well. The work of Ettore Sottsass Junior, born in Innsbruck in 1917 eludes however systematic classification by entrenching itself in the simplicity of his way of describing architecture and design: “I have always thought that design begins at the point where rational processes end and magical ones begin” (1962).

It will be interesting then to look back at his early beginnings, starting in 1946 to reveal the buildings that Sottsass realised in 1954 at Pont Saint-Martin in Valle d’Aosta. MART in Trento also presents a collection of Russian porcelain – from 1917 to the mid 1920s – from the Sandretti collection until February 13. L.B.
