Souvenirs perdus d'un village lointain

Presented as an installation, Studio Jo Meesters' new textile collection captures nature and brings it inside the home A news report from Rotterdam

Presented at Object Rotterdam 2012, Studio Jo Meesters' new collection Souvenirs perdus d'un village lointain (Forgotten memories from a distant village) is mostly made from textiles, which vary from biological cotton, mohair wool, merino wool, luminous and acrylic yarns and upcycled woolen blankets.

While travelling through Southeast Asia, Jo Meesters was inspired by colourful Vietnamese handcrafted textiles and furniture. By transforming this inspiration with its traditional forms and techniques and shifting them towards a contemporary expression, this new series of interior products seeks to convey the studio's interest in craftsmanship and mass production techniques.

The projects Neo Vanitas (room dividers) , Lycoperdon Pyriforme (floor cushions) and Aurelia Eichhornia (lamps) were developed in collaboration with Audax Tetiellab | Textile Museum Tilburg. Translating nature into an industrial process, these products seek to capture nature's beauty, bringing it to the home.
