Conceived by Élodie Boutry Panorama is a space which can be crossed, a partly open structure, creating privileged viewpoints of the landscape and immersing us in a colourful world.
Panorama has been created at the top of la Roche Nité (1100m) in the middle of the volcanic landscape in France’s Sancy region for the 10th anniversary of the summer festival Horizons. The shape is based on the surrounding mountains and on faceted rocks inspired by the Italian Painting from the Trecento and Quattrocento (Fran Angelico, Giotto, Domenico Veneziano). This installation follows a work the artist made two years ago for the Art in the Chapels in Brittany.
Panorama is a space which can be crossed, immersing us in a colourful world. The structure is partly open, creating privileged viewpoints of the landscape. The lines of the unique horizons are given front stage and windows frame the surroundig nature. The openings invite the spectator’s gaze to cross the construction and come to rest on a fragment of sky, a triangle of greenery or mountainous terrain. In the same way as stained glass, it comes to rest within the landscape to offer us a new perception.
The structure is made with OSB. The pannels were cut into 288 pieces in Estampille 52’s studio in Paris and transported on location. Numbered as a giant 3D puzzle, the structure was assembled and painted on site during five weeks. By its dimension (10 x 2,85 x 3 m) and its colours, the installation leaves its mark on the landscape.
