How do we live today? How will we live tomorrow? And how do people on other continents live?

imm cologne’s comprehensive event programme holds the answers to many questions from within the furnishing sector.

With special exhibitions, trend shows and piazzas, Koelnmesse deals with different aspects of living and lifestyles and thereby adds huge value to the exhibitors’ furniture presentations.

Within the furnishing sector, Cologne is a reflection of the industry in all its different facets. A very good example of this is “The Stage”, imm cologne’s presentation forum in the Pure Village exhibition segment in Hall 2.2. Which colour schemes are in trend? What kind of value do new lighting systems add and how should they be integrated into a room? What plans for sustainability concepts do designers and companies have? These questions and many more will be investigated by the industry experts delivering lectures and presentations with a focus on Interior Design at “The Stage” during the fair week.

However, topics are not limited to Interior Design: for example, why the fashion industry can still be a role model for the furnishing industry. Of course, the fair visitor can also investigate this inspiring environment even further by visiting the special exhibition “Das Haus – Interiors on Stage”, this year planned and executed by Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu.

As is the tradition, the formal opening of the event programme will take place on the evening before the fair with the presentation of the “Interior Innovation Award”. The winning products will then be exhibited on the Koelnmesse “Boulevard” for the duration of the fair. Other attractions for the visitor include the “Sleep Lounge” at the centre of Hall 9 with the “meetsleep” anniversary party on 20 January, the “Pure One” platform for young design, the emotional worlds of the “Mood Lounge” in the Comfort Segment in Hall 10.2 and the Trend Show at “Prime” in Hall 10.1.
Alongside, with Passagen, Cologne will become a “mecca” for the design-hungry and design tourists – and a meeting point for the international design scene.

Among these shows the Museum of Applied Art Cologne (MAKK) opens the design exhibition entitled “System Design – Over 100 years of chaos in everyday life”, a review of the system concept in design. The Institut Français Cologne, in cooperation with Villa Noailles of Hyères, Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres, and D’ Days Paris, presents works from prize-winner of the Design Parade 8 Grand Prix Mathieu Peyroulet Ghilini, and from the winner of the design award of the Conseil Général du Var Laureline Galliot.
Passagen will be providing an opportunity to discover university projects: the Köln International School of Design (KISD) with two new projects as well as the Faculty of Architecture at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences; the show of new furniture of the Faculty of Architecture in collaboration with the Department of Applied Social Sciences and the project “foldable furniture” of the Cologne Institute for Architectural Design (CIAD). The Design Faculty of Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts will showcase the “making-of” the workshop “Greetings from Istanbul”.

A central theme of Passagen is once again kitchen design, contemporary to the LivingKitchen: that includes among others the shows at the Rheinloft, one of the new locations downtown Cologne, exhibiting design of different high end manufacturers, as well as exhibitions of Boffi, cucina, bulthaup and others. The university project “The Metamorphosis of the Bonfire” is an interplay project of art and design developed by students of the Köln International School of Design (KISD) at the Museum Villa Zanders.
Recycling design again prove to be a central theme in 2015: different institutions and actors showcase their recent projects including Museum der Dinge, MARTa Herford and RecyclingDesignpreis with Oliver Schubbe, Walking Chair from Vienna and Max Borka.
