Asus ROG Phone II is a smartphone powerhouse for gamers

A hybrid device that seems almost a gamble: but with the spread of 5G could become almost a standard.

Last week Asus officially introduce the ROG Phone II, the second installment of its gaming-oriented smartphone. The new phone doesn’t introduce any drastical change to the design, but packs an interesting series of hardware updates (such as a specced up Snapdragon 855 Plus SoC with a beefier Graphics Processing Unit) that make it one of the most powerful Android devices on the market right now.

The display received the biggest upgrade, thanks to a new 6.59-inch Full-HD OLED panel, support for 10-bit HDR and a 120Hz refresh rate, which is great to play high-speed games. Moreover, the touch-recognition refresh rate of 240Hz brings the touch-input latency down to 49 milliseconds—it’s faster than any smartphone display currently available on the market and it’s of course great for gamers. The ROG II also packs 12GB of RAM, up to 512GB of storage and, above all, a monstrous 6000mAh, which will provide enough juice to play PUBG for 7 hours with the screen set to 60Hz.

With the new ROG II Asus also introduced new updated gaming accessories, such as an AeroActive external cooler, a dual screen TwinView dock and above all a gamepad attachment called the Kunai which basically turns the phone into a de facto game console with a nice large screen. Price and availability have yet to be announced, but we expect to know more from Asus at IFA, Berlin’s electronics trade show, where ASUS has planned a press event for September 4.
