BMW designed an e-scooter for the future of urban mobility

The BMW Motorrad Definition CE 04 is a new electric scooter with a futuristic design and a huge display acting as an interface between the analogue and digital worlds.

After years of concepts and tests, BMW Motorrad is ready to bring a new electric scooter with a futuristic design to the e-bike market. The new vehicle is called CE 04 and aims at blending the analogue driving experience of to a digital-first User Experience. The driver of the CE 04 can stay always connected to the scooter via a dedicated smartphone app, while the gigantic 10,5” screen in the front will act as the main interface between the analogue and digital world.

“The BMW Motorrad Definition CE 04 is the logical continuation of the electromobility strategy for urban conurbations and provides a concrete preview of what a contemporary production vehicle could look like,” says Edgar Heinrich, Head of Design at BMW Motorrad, “with which we will take two-wheel electric mobility in metropolitan areas to a new level, both technically and visually.”

The Definition CE 04’s design mixes elements of anime-inspired futurism, with modular body elements and striking orange accents, to a certain German solidity of the vehicle. The low centre of gravity and the elongated structure (which reminds of the motorcycle from the Japanese cyberpunk classic Akira) are supposed to make the CE 04 extremely drivable in all conditions, especially in future urban environments. Details about the powertrain and the battery range are scarce, but don’t expect it to be able to cover longer rides: it’s been explicitly designed for urban riders and short daily commutes.
