Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec’s new vases inspired by Henri Matisse

The Vases Fenêtre collection designed by the French designers is part of the project of Maison Matisse to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the artist’s birth.

To celebrate the 150th anniversary of Henri Matisse, Maison Matisse selected contemporary designers and craftsmen to interpret the artist’s work and values through a collection of vases. Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec – together with Alessandro Mendini and Jaime Hayon – were called to participate to the project. Inspired by the window open to the outside, that can be found in many works by Matisse, the French designers tried to recreate this subject in their Vases Fenêtre collection. A terracotta brick is used as the lip of the window, on which an enamelled ceramic cylinder is placed, while an anodized aluminium plaque in blue tone on the back represents the sky.
