Flavio Favelli presents to the public the two site specific wall paintings named Serie Imperiale, in Valsamoggia, Bologna. Serie Imperiale is a project curated by Elisa Del Prete and Silvia Litardi, made possible by the Italian Council. This is the first work of the artist conceived for the territory in which he has lived and worked for more than 15 years.

The subject of the two wall paintings recalls the bizarre iconography of two historical stamps of the Kingdom of Italy belonging to the “Imperial” series issued in 1929 and in use until 1946, on which the face of Vittorio Emanuele III was represented with a further overprint. The works are intended as a metaphor for the stratification of Italian history to which the work refers. The subjects were painted at the Casa del Popolo and the former miniCoop in Bazzano, part of a single architectural complex. The project aims to witness the ongoing transformation in the territory, where political commitment, cooperative enterprise and social relations are called to question themselves on their present and future.

The project is divided into three phases: painting, tearing and filling. The first phase corresponds to the dates of the exhibition on site, the second involves the transfer of two paintings on canvas, while in the third the artist will perform a gesture of plastering and patching of the trace left after the removal of the paintings. To complete these phases, the work is documented through an immersive photograph edited by DeyeVR and reproduced in virtual reality. A publication is produced in support of the project.
