The Chicago Architecture Biennial and Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced the appointment of Yesomi Umolu as Artistic Director of the 2019 Chicago Architecture Biennial.

Chicago-based curator and writer Yesomi Umolu has a background in architectural design and curatorial studies. Her recent explorations in the field of global contemporary art and spatial practices gave shape to exhibitions dealing with the politics of the built environment. In the coming months Umolu will choose the members of the international curatorial team.

For the 2019 Chicago Architecture Biennial, Umolu’s vision focuses on the new approaches to architecture, urbanism, and spatial practices. This edition of the Biennial will be conceived as a forum to explore creative responses to shifting spatial conditions at local, regional, and international levels.
