Marked movement

Portuguese designer Soraia Gomes Teixeira explores body movements in relationship to space through a series of devices that potentiate alternative positions.

Movimento Marcado by Soraia Gomes Teixeira is a series of experimental objects, which allow to explore the awareness of certain movements and gestures. These objects work as mediators between the human body and the architectural space, with plywood devices fixed at specific heights of the wall, which might imply a using challenge.

The pieces emphasize the everyday actions, drawing a geometric figure when walking with a skirt or revealing the precise leaning angle of one’s head on a pedestal, as if in need of a rest. Traditionally, objects are designed according to body measures and movements, which determine their final shape. This project questions ergonomics and how much the body might shape an object or how much an object might shape the movements of the body.
