This year, ECAL has changed direction after a series of interactive and engaging exhibitions. In the customary location of Via dell’Orso 16, it presents a joint exhibition by second-year students on the Industrial Design and Fine Arts degree courses, led by professors Christophe Guberan and Stéphane Kropf.

The students considered about the subtle boundary between art and design, and the different design approaches of the designer and artist. What differentiates an art object from a practical one? Geneva artist John M. Armleder, a member of Fluxus, was invited to curate the “More Rules for Modern Life” exhibition. After revisiting some of his iconic works, the students tackled different sizes, forms, colours and materials, challenging the pre-set categories.
