Morgan Ruben: Motus

For his new LED lamp Dutch designer Morgan Ruben was inspired by the movement of a grass’s blade in the wind, translated into a brass stem supported by a wooden base.

This light, designed by Morgan Ruben, reminds us of our need to connect with nature whilst remaining in touch with advancements made in technology.
Inspired by the natural movement of grass caught by a gust of wind, this light gently rocks back and forth with a gentle touch reminiscent of its source of inspiration. It is held in balance by its own weight and slender stem.

Motus consists of a selection of traditionally used materials such as walnut wood for the base and the head of the lamp, and brass for the stem. Light is produced by an integrated, high power LED strip. A touch sensor functions as both the dimmer and power switch. The head is completely rotatable and can be adjusted to cast light in any desired direction.

The name Motus is derived from Latin and, translated to English, means “movement”. This refers to the gentle rocking motion of the lamp.
