The caravanserais vaults and the pomegranate tree, symbol of Turkey’s agricultural wealth that represents diversity in unity, inspired the design of the Turkish Pavilion at Expo.

An architectural project built in record time: Turkey, among the last countries that confirmed their presence in the Expo, designed the pavilion in just two months, and finished its construction in just three and half month.
The Turkish Pavilion  – conceived, designed and organized by dDf / dream Design factory – is the fifth argest pavilion in Expo Milano.

The theme “Digging in the Past for future nourishment” was inspired by the pomegranate, nar in Turkish, and works as the foundation to the entire architectural project of the pavilion. The entrance is decorated with the modern interpretation of the “Selcuk Star” and the traditional Çesm-i Bülbül glass art, both indispensable to the aesthetics of the country’s exhibition.

The structure is composed of three main bodies both indoors and outdoors, for a total size of four thousand square meters. The area is not limited to events and workshops but to the actual recreation of a Turkish atmosphere including a restaurant with traditional Turkish cuisine and an enogastronomic boutique. An authentic and experimental space that allows visitors to enjoy Turkish tea or coffee under an Ottoman fountain.

The caravanserais vaults inspired the creation of a space to host exhibitions and workshops. The pavilion ends with a  library containing digital and paper books on food and nutrition in Turkish history, on agricultural politics, and worldwide aid programs for nourishment suggestions.
