As part of the "Critical Episodes (1957-2011)" exhibition, Barcelona's MACBA presents "The Art of the First Globalisation", a first snapshot of the new historical world order that came through in the sixties, through the works of artists such as Marcel Broodthaers, Öyvind Fahlström, Hans Haacke, Miralda and Hélio Oiticica.
At the Level 1 of the museum, the exhibition reflects on how during that decade, the world was configuring itself as a global system in almost every sense: transport, the media and capital broke free from national spheres, and this process favoured new forms of life — many of those working in the field of artistic practices understood that art could not ignore the social and political changes that were brewing. A series of installations draw from the MACBA's own collection.
