Plusdesign: woven material

On the occasion of the the Salone del Mobile 2012, the contemporary design gallery and limited edition brand Plusdesign Gallery presents two exhibitions — The Threads that Bind us and The Chroma Season — and the project "Plusdesign Tables," including a preview of Jens Praet's Processus Table.

Curated by Barbara Brondi and Marco Rainò, The Threads That Bind Us will include a series of original works in which "woven material" is of fundamental importance, used with the intention of instilling identity and character on objects, while evoking a vision of how the practice of weav­ing fibres opens up meaningful interpretations.

The works will be based on the concept that, "a thread is a flexible, non-extendable struc­ture and allows operations like sewing, embroi­dery and weaving to be carried out. Age-old creative practices which, even though they have very definite and unmistakable roots in craft tradition, turn out to still be valid realms of exploration for assessing new or innovative solutions."

As well as looking to revive an old-fashioned and universally practiced craft, the exhibition will look to show that the use of threads and yarns for the modern-day man­ufacturing of objects is also a very up-to-date and original means of expression, giving new meaning to key terms like "knot" and "stitch", and metaphorically evoking the concepts of "weave" and "web". The exhibition will reunite new work by Loredana Bonora, Salvatore Franzese, Soojin Kang, Evelin Kasikov, Kwangho Lee, Llot Llov, Philippe Malouin, Studio Besau Marguerre, Bertjan Pot, Florian Schmid and Elisa Strozyk.

The Threads That Bind Us will be flanked by an exhibition of the latest work from Liliana Ovalle. The Mexican born, London based product and furniture designer's new phase of creative conception is presented as The Chroma Season, also curated by Barbara Brondi and Marco Rainò.

Set up in the windowed room gallery well known as Project Room, the installation is characterised by a strong reciprocity among the individual pieces dis­played. They are all associated by a consistent use of colour and share the same geometric formal design inspiration.

In addition to the pair of tables Colour Me Tables — composed by Colour Me Green and Colour Me Red — and the Patio carpet, the installation also includes the brand-new desk Colour Me Desk and some ex­perimental Samples of Colour designed exclusively for the event. The Colour theme, implemented by the designer in unique or limited edition pieces, looks to be interpret­ed as "a factor enhancing the object identity, a kind of code by which amplify its emotional charge and its aptitude to transmit meaningful information."
