Charity Box On Tour

The natural disaster that hits Japan was shocking and devastating. Japanese residents abroad have experienced the dramatic event with a double anxiety: on one hand, the concern about the consequences for their countrymen and country, on the other, the impotence of being far away and not being able to help out by contributing to the rescue of the survivors and the reconstruction of the destroyed cities and villages.

Their initial concern and sorrow for the fate of the victims, their families and their communities have developed into a desire to collaborate in the reconstruction and to help the people return as quickly as possible to a normal life. Milano based Non- Profit organization "L'Isola della Speranza", as well as many Japanese living in Milan, has launched several projects to raise funds to assist people living in the affected areas.

First and foremost among these initiatives: the exhibition "Charity Box EMERGENCY PROJECT FOR JAPAN" which has been held in April during the Milan Furniture Fair.

The exhibition presents a series of boxes for the collection of funds that have been created by several internationally renowned designers from Japan, Italy and other countries. These boxes, as well as being objects of design, are nice "piggy banks" in which visitors are invited to put their donations for the victims of the earthquake and tsunami. Among the 53 designers and artists collaborating on the project, there are many internationally renowned professionals including Riccardo Blumer, Marco Ferreri, Naoto Fukasawa and Denis Santachiara.

The funds raised from donations to "Charity Box EMERGENCY PROJECT FOR JAPAN" will be allocated to a Non-Profit organization active in the Miyagi and Sendai Prefectures.
