The Eames innovation alights in Milan

Coming to Milan’s Triennale exhibition spaces is the retrospective on the work and legacy transmitted by Charles Eames and his wife, Ray, that was first shown at the Vitra design Museum in 1997 and has been on tour ever since through numerous European museums. The project summarises the complexity of the Eames’ work and the decisive contribution that it afforded the contemporary world.

It is documented through a critical choice of projects that refer to the various areas of their activity, those that sound the response that replied to the ‘challenge’ launched at them by their patrons or taken up on their own inclination. For example, how to produce inexpensive but high-quality furniture; how to create economical living or work spaces that were simultaneously well-designed; how to help people grasp the beauty inherent in everyday life; how to help the Americans and other cultures to understand each other reciprocally; how to make essential scientific principles accessible to the layman.

There are five respective sections that articulate the exhibition’s development – Furnishing, Space, Beauty, Culture and Science – while a sixth section represents a more intimate meeting with Charles and Ray Eames. Further illuminating the exhibition are photographs, films, and interviews with friends and colleagues of the Eames’.
