The twentieth century seen through posters by Metlicovitz and Dudovich is the subject of an exhibition on in Piacenza, in the ex Emilia power station, featuring musical works by Ricordi, the universal expos of the early part of the century and Borsalino fashions by the two poster designers of the 1900s. With 32 large format pieces (from around two hundred which go to make up the Civica Raccolta delle Stampe ‘Achille Bertarelli’) the collection, organised by Giovanna Ginex, documents the work of Leopoldo Metlicovitz (born in Trieste in 1868) and Marcello Dudovich (born in Trieste in 1878), two of the greatest exponents of poster design and advertising art, active in Milan, in Italy and at an international level from the end of the nineteenth century to the mid twentieth century.
The exhibition highlights the stylistic contact between the two artists, the major clients which they often shared, such as the Mele company of Naples, some national dailies, Casa Ricordi with its production of musical works, and those for consumer goods. It also gives space over to the original graphic solutions chosen by Metlicovitz for the national expositions of the early twentieth century and by Dudovich for Borsalino.
