From the vases made with “light and space” by Carlo Scarpa to the coloured and expressionistic fantasies of Fulvio Bianconi, from Gio Ponti to Tapio Wirkkala. The current show (open until February 17th) at the Corning Museum of Glass explores the artistic and creative Venini path. The collaboration between artists, architects and knowledgeable artisans, the predilection for limited series rather than mass production, are some of the distinctive traits of the Murano company founded in 1921, “characterised by its experimental approach, innovative design, superb technique and upbeat spirit”, explains Tina Oldknow, the show’s curator: “these are the qualities of the best Italian glass”.
On display, 35 objects belonging to the Steinberg Foundation in addition to some rare pieces such as the group of three vases entitled “Façades of Venice” created by Thomas Stearns in 1961.
