September–October

Domus Mexico Central America and Caribbean, September–October 2016
The concentration of activities in one place can optimize the use and cost of the land, but also can improve the quality of life of the inhabitants.

This might be the answer of the increasing tendency to populate the cities. The mixed-use buildings can become the ideal typology of this new type of city while combining living and work.

This Domus Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean issue shows some of the most interesting projects of mixed-use architecture in our region. A hotel in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, designed by Zürcher Arquitectos, mixes rooms with entertainment and shops. Same as Futura in San Jose Costa Rica that take full advantage of a triangular lot by mixing: shopping center, a business center and apartment buildings without losing contact with the surrounding atmosphere.

Distrito Fijo Club de Ciclismo in Mexico shows the new ways of living in a big city, using your bicycle, great food options and sport activities.

In the confetti section, we reviewed the work of September–October who was the winner of the Venice Architecture Biennale. Additionally we included an exclusive interview with Paulo Mendes da Rocha who also obtained an award in the same Biennial. The Costa Rican architect, Marlo Trejos described about the tendency to re-populate the city of San Jose. Finally we have included the amazing temporary work designed by Ambrosi-Etchegaray in the Feria de las Culturas Amigas in Mexico City.
