Previ, Proyecto Experimental de Vivienda—

When Cristobal Palma was photographing the historic PREVI complex in Lima, Peru, he noticed a rhythm of life particular to the neighborhood. In the accompanying video, he captures the details of how people respond to both the pace and space of these collaboratively designed residences, both indoors and out. PREVI—Proyecto Experimental de Vivienda—is an experimental district collectively designed by a generation of radical avant-garde architects who converged on Lima in the late 1960s. Thirteen Peruvian teams and thirteen international teams—including James Stirling, Aldo van Eyck, the Metabolists, Charles Correa, and Christopher Alexander, among many others—was a pioneering attempt to reconcile the conflicting forces of informal growth and top-down planning.

Says Palma of this video, "PREVI is full of layers not only metaphorically but also literally, and it is (almost) impossible to convey all of that regardless of the media being used… so with this video I tried to show a few of the elements out of the very many of this place."

Mentre Cristobal Palma fotografava il complesso storico di PREVI a Lima, Perù, ha colto nel quartiere un ritmo di vita particolare. In questo video riesce a catturare nel dettaglio come la gente risponde a questo ritmo e interagisce con lo spazio di queste residenze, all'esterno come all'interno.

PREVI—Proyecto Experimental de Vivienda—è il quartiere sperimentale costruito sul finire degli anni Sessanta dalla generazione di architetti dell'avanguardia radicale internazionale riunitasi a Lima, in Perù. Tredici architetti peruviani e altrettanti internazionali—tra i quali James Stirling, Aldo van Eyck, i Metabolisti, Charles Correa, e Christopher Alexander—hanno guidato il tentativo di riconciliare il conflitto il conflitto tra città informale e disegno urbano.

A proposito di questo video, Palma spiega: "PREVI è ricco di piani diversi, non soltanto in senso metaforico, ma anche letterale, ed è (quasi) impossibile farli emergere tutti senza considerare i media utilizzati... Con questo video ho provato a mostrare alcuni degli elementi presenti in questo luogo".
