Interview with Francesco Faccin—

In 2003 after having finished his studies at the Istituto Europeo di Design, Faccin works at the Enzo Mari design studio. In the meantime he starts up his career as a freelance designer, collaborating with Italian and International companies such as Tod´s, Segis and Yamagiwa. He works in small scale self-production projects with local craftsmen, carefully supervising the whole process and development of the products and getting closely involved with the various issues of the new challenge: In particular to those regarding wood manipulation and craftsmen labour. In 2009 Faccin meets Michele De Lucchi and since then they work in mutual collaboration. "I didn't completely understand the relation between my work as designer and the mix of materials I use to collect. I always accumulate pieces of objects, bones, plastics, pieces of different woods… I like worn out materials, smooth, rusty, ruined by the time, abandoned…"

Nel 2003, dopo aver frequentato l'Istituto Europeo di Design , lavora nello studio di Enzo Mari. Nel frattempo inizia l'attività come designer indipendente collaborando con aziende italiane e straniere come Tod's, Segis, Yamagiwa. Lavora in stretta collaborazione con gli artigiani, attento a controllare personalmente tutte le fasi dello sviluppo del prodotto e appassionandosi alle problematiche del progetto, in particolare a quelle che si riferiscono al legno e al lavoro artigianale. Nel 2009 incontra Michele De Lucchi con cui inizia una collaborazione.. Sviluppa , inoltre, progetti auto-producibili in piccola serie. "Non ho ancora ben capito che relazione esista tra il mio lavoro di progettista e questi assemblaggi di materiali. Da sempre raccolgo e accumulo pezzi di oggetti, ossa, plastica, pezzi di legno… Mi interessano i materiali consunti, levigati, arrugginiti, martoriati dal tempo, abbandonati…"
