The Dutch designer presents a new furniture collection, produced with Roosje Hindeloopen craft workers and the Tinctoria textile company. A photo-essay from Milan by Elena Sommariva

Christien Meindertsma and Holland's Thomas Eyck (with whom she has already made a large crochet pouf) propose eight contemporary returns to the age-old traditions of the Hindeloopen craft firm in the Zuiderzee region, which has specialised in decorated furniture since 1800.

The Utrecht designer, a former student of the Design Academy in Eindhoven, combined old craft methods with a new approach to decoration to develop a table, a chair (with a distinctive wool seat), a lacquered and decorated sideboard, a set of sculptural salt and pepper pots and a carpet. The decision to use only 100% natural colours (produced in collaboration with the Tinctoria textile company) also forms part of her working ethos. ES
