Site-specific

Walking through the streets of Florence, Edoardo Fanteria captures the scaffolding as if they were site-specific, capable of temporarily changing the face of history, giving us a whole new perspective on things.

The site-specific designation is generally used in art and contemporary creativity to indicate an intervention that is designed and fits into a precise location.
The interaction with the environment is narrow and refers to all aspects of his identity, from history to architecture, from spatial structure to culture.

There are urban transformations which take part as spectators, but they change significantly the way we perceive a space. Scaffolding on  monuments and buildings resonate with the environment of the city, upsetting a situation of apparent calm. There are not many opportunities to change the appearance of an old town like Florence, to radically change the facade of an old building. The scaffolding changes the shape of the building, it temporarily changes the context, delivers it in a metaphysical dimension, where behind the curtain can paradoxically be hiding a new object, a new architecture.

The restoration is an exceptional event, but also exceptional is the sitespecific art of Christo and Jeanne-Claude, in some way very similar to the scaffolding on buildings, just think of Wrapped Reichstag that disappeared after a while. Walking in the streets of Florence, where the photos were taken you will come across a large number of buildings undergoing renovation. Scaffolding can change the face of history for a short time, giving us a whole new perspective on things.
