Age-friendly winners

The jury has chosen the winning projects of the Age-Friendly Products competition: five winners and one special mention. All selected projects will now be prototyped.

The winners have been chosen for the Domus Age-friendly products competition, which invited design professionals and students to rethink domestic objects for today's senior citizens — for the most part in good health, are familiar with technology and have high product-quality standards. The competition was devised by Maria Grazia Mazzocchi, Marcello Lago and Elena Pacenti, with the sponsorship of the LN-A Foundation.

Numerous projects from all over the world were analysed by a jury integrated by Maria Grazia Mazzocchi (founder of Domus Academy), Joseph Grima (Domus editor-in-chief), Enrico Astori (president of Driade), Marcello Lago (LN-A), Stefano Marzano (Group Chief Design Officer and Group Management member at Electrolux), Vanni Pasca (design historian) e Alice Rawsthorn (design critic at the International Herald Tribune). In the project selection, particular attention was given to the relevance of the need addresses, simplicity of use, aesthetics and comfort.

In the professional category, the 3,000 euro first prize was attributed to Oskar Kohnen for Handle It, a mobile, portable device with a handle, which, by means of a simple and intelligent mechanism allows anyone to find support and balance anywhere and anytime.

The 2,000 euro second prize was awarded to Jon Hilliar's Electronic Pill Box, an ingenious electronic reminder for daily medicine ingestion, allowing to control time and mode of intake.

Alessandro Giacomelli, Marco Redaelli, <em>Cabaret</em> tray, winner of the third prize — Alessandro Giacomelli, Marco Redaelli, *Cabaret* tray, winner of the third prize

The 1,000 euro third prize in the professional category was attributed to Alessandro Giacomelli and Marco Redaelli for their Cabaret tray. Devised from a simple aluminium sheet, the tray is lightweight and renders stability to all objects transported.

The winning projects will now be prototyped and realized in a scale 1:1, and presented in the pages of Domus

Paola Garbuglio, <em>Ricordade</em>, special mention of the jury — Paola Garbuglio, *Ricordade*, special mention of the jury

In the professional category, the jury decided to attribute a special mention to Paola Garbuglio's Ricordare project, for its poetic combination of innovation and memory. The designer gave a twist to a simple method of remembering things, incorporating nanotechnology in a simple tissue, thus rendering an inanimate object capable of remembering important things.

Einav Hamami, <em>Shoes</em>, winner of the first prize in the student category — Einav Hamami, *Shoes*, winner of the first prize in the student category

In the student category, the jury attributed only a first and second prize. The winner of the 3,000 euro first prize was Einav Hamami for his Shoes project, which devised a multifunctional object which allows for support when putting on and taking off shoes. The 2,000 euro second prize was awarded to Pengfei Ren's O.O. project, a series of intelligent LED lamps which communicate amongst themselves, lighting automatically when movement is detected in different spaces.

The winning projects will now be prototyped and realized in a scale 1:1, and presented in the pages of Domus.
