This May has “Viva Arte Viva” opened its doors – the 57th Venice International Art Biennale – while Domus 1013 has examined Italy with its strenghts and contradictions. We talked about the architectures of Renzo Piano in France, Archstudio in Tangshan and Nu.ma in Avanca, Portugal. Daan Roosegaard invented a bicycle that filters polluted air to create purified air bubbles around cyclists, and Edoardo Tresoldi along with Designlab Experience delighted the royal family in Abu Dhabi with a striking installation. Here is a selection of the best stories of the past month.

Renzo Piano Building Workshop designed an art pavilion in Le Puy Ste Réparade, France, carving a 6 meters deep valley in the earth so as to fully incorporate the building into the vineyard.

– The research by Alterazioni Video promotes the study of the Incompiuto architectural style as an interpretative paradigm of Italian architecture from WWII to the present day.

– The innovative bicycle by Daan Roosegaarde suckes in polluted air, cleans it, and releases clean air around the cyclist, also creating impact on the larger urban scale.

– Vincenzo Latina’s project for the regeneration of the Lampedusa old quarries lends a voice to the memory of one of the largest and most desperate migrations of our times while, at the same time, doing justice to the island’s tourist vocation.

– Designed by Chinese firm Archstudio, this religious building is a place with power of perception where trees, water, Buddha and human coexist is thus created.

– Great cultures are built upon great contradictions which is why Italy is one of the world’s contradictors in chief.

– Copenhagen-based retailer Vipp designed a prefabricated cabin, in which the landscape is purposely framed, turning it into the predominant element of the interior space.

– To avoid the massive effect of the house on the elevations, Nu.ma designed a set of lines, merging the floors and establishing some rules on the windows and facade finishes.

– The exhibition “Art/Afrique, le nouvelle atelier” at Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris is based on Jean Pigozzi’s splendid collection, lent and exhibited on several occasions has become fundamental. Now it reveals how precious it is and not just for that continent.

– Edoardo Tresoldi and Designlab Experience envisioned in Abu Dhabi a garden where architecture and nature dance together in continuous connections and contrasts.

– A space to experience, the French Pavilion by Xavier Veilhan is a work of great aesthetic force, which fits into the realm of relations between the world of sight and sound. #BiennaleArte2017
