Like sedimentary deposits, the furniture collection by AHO is made of layers using waste material from the marble and granite factories of Al Quoz, in Dubai.

AHO, Strata collection, 2017
Dubai based studio AHO (A Hypothetical Office) designed a furniture collection made from harvested waste from the marble and granite factories of Al Quoz, Dubai. The designers took the marble-sludge (the milky run-off from machining processes) and marble offcuts from construction sites, then crushed and cast it into stratified slabs.

Like sedimentary deposits, each piece is made of layers, questioning waste in the form of precious objects. The materials used are lime, sand, marble pigments and natural pigments. The collection includes two benches, two stools, one table, six pots and a wall. The last one was made in collaboration with Zuleika Penniman and Chafa Ghaddar: a fresco finished with natural pigments.
