Villa Boucquillon

Like butterflies’ wings, the roof of the villa designed by Michel Boucquillon and Donia Maaoui opens up at a 30 degrees, allowing natural light and ventilation.

Couple in work and in life, Michel Boucquillon and Donia Maaoui, both architects, designed their home on the hills around Lucca.

The villa, the guest house and the pool are real jewels of contemporary architecture and technology immersed in the Tuscan nature. Both buildings are clinging on a hill of white marble and both properties are very bright and transparent. The project lies in total harmony with nature which is all over.

The main building is defined by an openable roof: its two wings open at an angle of 30 degrees, jsut like the wings of a butterfly. With a total surface of 110 square meters, this innovative hydraulic structure opens with 6 hydraulic pistons. This system allows natural ventilation to cool the house and brings to the villa a very unique sensation of literally sleeping under the stars.
